World-building.net is one of my harebrained ideas. I'd like it to be, eventually, a site with a lot of good information, some by me and some by others. I've found very few help sites online, compared to how much you can find for other aspects of writing; the best one I've found focuses only on the physical aspects of worldbuilding, which, in my opinion, is the easiest and least interesting aspect. There are many worldbuilding sites devoted to the creation of good RPG sets, but the needs of an RPG and the needs of a novel are very different. I hope this site is a help to you; thanks for visiting.

As for 'me,' well, my name is Melanie Simet and I'm a 20-year-old college senior at the University of Iowa, majoring in physics and astronomy and (currently) minoring in math and English. I've been a fantasy and sf fan practically since birth—my standard explanation for this can be summed in my parents' first date, which was the original Star Wars. I'm also an aspiring speculative fiction writer. I don't have any professional credentials, really, so I hope you'll judge on what I say and not who I am. I post updates at livejournal, username surely_i_jest. I also blog at Random Notions, a subdomain of this site; Oubliette, linked there, is the shell of what will eventually be a personal webpage.
